ACNE OR PIMPLES

Acne is a common inflammatory skin condition characterized by blemishes that can occur in your face, neck, back, shoulders, and chest. Contrary to common belief, acne does not just present during puberty but also in adulthood as well.

There are different grades of acne, typically classified as Grade 1 to Grade 4. Starting as just comedones which can be closed (whiteheads) or opened (blackheads) to simple popular lesions to cystic lesions that can be disfiguring. They become persistent, painful, and unflattering. This is why acne can affect a person’s self-esteem. Although there are available treatments that have been proven to be effective, severe acne can leave a scar behind and cause emotional distress. It is important to seek treatment for acne as early as possible.

MELASMA

Melasma is a skin condition which has deeper, denser pigmentation than regular “sunspots”.  It may be associated with hormonal changes such as with pregnancy or starting the birth control pill.  Melasma may resolve spontaneously after pregnancy, however, melasma can sometimes be permanent and there is no known “cure”.  Treatments are geared towards improving the appearance of the pigmentation but it is important for the client to know that melasma often recurs so it is very important to avoid triggers such as sun exposure.

It is one of the most common conditions that we treat.
